This is a guide on how to publish an article. It's nothing hard to do but it required some time to get it through... Before making an article, you need to know what WAD are you talking about before. In this case, let's take the LibreShop channel as an example.

Requirements

When making a new article, you need to know the following before starting creating one:

WADs name

This is mandatory since, you everyone need to know what "this" article is talking about. Keep in mind that you need to know the WAD's full name! Continuing without knowing its full name can lead to missinformation and risking about your post getting deleted!

Author (or Authors if there are more)

We always respect the creators, so this is why it's mandatory as well! It is important since we need to know who made that specific WAD, and contacting them if there is an issue!

Type

Is the article you want to publish making reference of a WiiWare game/app or a regular Homebrew Forwarder? If it's redirecting to a Homebrew app once you load it, then it's a "Forwarder". If it's a WAD game made by the publishers, then it's a "WiiWare". Also don't forget, since this is mandatory as well!

Release date of the WAD

This is the 2nd most prioritised at mandatory requirements. Everyone need to know how old this WAD is and how are supposed to celebrate it. Just to be clear, we will always use the U.S. date type (Month DD, YYYY). Please don't use your regular type like DD.MM.YYYY or YYYY Month DD or whatever, as I don't wish dealing with weird databases info... Also using a fake date will result into deleting the post and getting necesary punishments for missinformation!

Available for...

This is easy to know. You need to double-check that by testing on real hardware, or documenting online before posting it. And, as the others, this is mandatory as well!

Download link

Simple requiremnts... This is mandatory, the download link needs to be from the official's creator website. If not, don't re-upload by yourself! Re-uploading someone's creation is like stealing a free pennie from the road and pretending that it's an official link... Adding a re-upload link will might lead on deleting this post. If the author doesn't provide a download link for it, you can safely mark it as "Unavailable".

Website

Same thing as the official link. This doesn't change much!

Contact link

Same thing as the other two. One thing to know is you can either use their's official Discord server and mark it as "Discord", or by using his e-mail address, marking it as "E-mail"!

A picture of the WAD's banner
This is an example of how a picture of the banner should look like!

This is the top #1 mandatory. Without it, you can't continue creating the article! The requirements are simple... You need a picture of the banner in native resolution (834x456 px) in .png file format! The Wii menu theme needs to be unmodified (meaning you need to use the regular boring default theme in order to screenshot it). An example of the banner is like as mentioned! To upload it first, you need to go visit the upload page, where the wizard will guide you through uploading the picture. Make sure that the file name includes the title ID only, and not "Screenshot_01041969.png", "youtube_dQw4w9WgXcQ_thumb.png" and so on! Doing so will risk your picture AND the associated article getting deleted!

A good history about the WAD

This is really mandatory, in order to not let the articles empty! You need to exactly know how the WAD was created, how did it get popular, youtube video previews from that creator and so many thing you can add! Don't know everything? Don't worry, you are not alone with somebody else will contribute on the article and add more as well!

Creating the article

Title Test
General
Author(s): Someone
Title ID: ABCD
Type: Forwarder
Released on: April 1, 2025
Available for: Wii, vWii, mini
Useful Links

It's time to create the article. Before continuing, I want to mention that here's the start of your first article and I want your best for this! When you create the article, you need to start with the infobox. The infobox is used to gather important informations like as mentioned above!

The infobox looks like as mentioned, where it keeps important information like the picture, name, author and the list goes on! If you don't understand how it works, here's an example of "code line" you need to add:

{{Infobox WADs
| title = Title Test <===== Here goes the title of the WAD
| image = Sample.png <===== The image filename you've uploaded, including the file extension!
| author = Someone <===== The creator(s) of the WAD
| titleid = ABCD <===== The title ID of the WAD
| type = Forwarder <===== Forwarder or WiiWare?
| releasedate = April 1, 2025        <===== Release date of the WAD
| supportedsystems = Wii, vWii, mini <===== Suported systems. It can be Wii, Wii and vWii, Wii and mini or all three...
| download = [https://example.com Download] <===== Download link goes in [https://link.com/downloadwhatever Download] format
| website = [https://example.com Website]        <===== The website's link goes in [https://link.com Website] format
| contact = [mailto:[email protected] E-mail]        <===== The e-mail or contact link goes in [https://link.com/contact Download] format
}}

This is mandatory to be added on the first lines of the Article, otherwise the infobox will not show up and the risks might come in...

Once you've added the infobox, it's time to create the article as you wish, with historical information and live actions and... okay enough joking.... For creating the article, take some examples from the others, or check Wikipedia to get examples from. About formatting, check the MediaWiki's Help page and you'll find out more! You want to add a YouTube preview? Not a problem, you can use the

Just using <youtube>dQw4w9WgXcQ</youtube> and nothing else!

Conclusion

I hope this article will help you creating more articles in the future and better understand eachother when it comes to information sharring! If you need help and you don't know what to do, feel free to join on our Discord Server and tell us your problem! If you want to contribute as well, feel free to tell us! This is a non-profit project but I wish that will get it bigger and bigger in the future! Thanks for visiting WiiWAD Wiki and contributing on it!
